Tour Summary

Diving with sharks in Freeport Bahamas is the type of scuba dive that you will never forget! This is the type of scuba diving excursion that is reserved for only the most adventurous and curious of scuba divers. Diving with sharks is something that is completely safe, yet it will definitely be one of the most thrilling, exciting, and awe-inspiring Bahamas scuba diving experiences you might ever go on. If you are a certified scuba diver coming to Freeport, Bahamas, then do not miss your chance to join one of the country’s most talented teams of dive instructors for this unforgettable specialty Freeport dive!

The Freeport scuba diving team that operates this unique dive, the Underwater Explorers Society, has been around in Freeport since the 1960’s! The Bahamas Shark Dive was pioneered by this passionate and dedicated team of Bahamas scuba divers. The team that you will be joining for this Freeport shark dive are all shark behavior and conservation specialists. Prior to the dive, these dive instructors will provide divers with an educational presentation about the sharks’ biology and behavior, dispelling many misconceptions that often paint sharks in a negative light. You will learn that sharks are not the aggressive creatures that are showcased on TV, but in fact are fascinating, interesting, and intelligent large fish.

After learning about the sharks from our team of shark experts, you will head out to our destination to experience the incredible Freeport Shark Dive! You will go down to about 30 feet for the shark presentation, where our scuba diver shark experts will feed and interact with sharks of all sizes. Sharks will swim among divers, allowing you to observe first-hand their large, gray bodies and their sleek and precise movements. After you have gone scuba diving with the sharks, you will without a doubt have a deeper understanding and appreciation for these marine creatures!

What are the requirements to participate in this dive?
This dive requires an open water certification or higher.

What goes on during a shark dive?
This dive is a two-tank dive. Your first dive will typically be a free swim with the sharks at a dive site named the Shark Wall. This wall is located right next to one of the feeding sites used on this dive, so when the boat pulls up the sharks know its feeding time. The second dive is a feeding dive with the feeding done by the shark feeder. This dive can get really exciting as the sharks seek out their free meal.

Can you pick us up from our cruise ship or hotel?
Unfortunately, there is not a pick up provided for this activity.

What are water conditions like?
All dives occur on the south side of the island where waters conditions are great all year round. Visibility remains clear and consistent all year round. Water tempatures change seasonally but average between 72 - 78f.

Can I use/bring my own scuba diving equipment?
Yes. Many people feel more comfortable using equipment they are familiar with and are best suited towards their body type. While we do everything to ensure our divers are using the safest, most reliable gear we do allow our divers to use their own dive gear.

Can my non-diving partner come on the dive?
No, unfortunately only divers may come on this trip.

Is there a restroom on the boat?
Yes. There is a restroom or "Marine Head" for use on the boat.

What about sharks and other sea creatures?
With all the media hype it's understandable why people often ask this question but the truth is that unprovoked shark attacks are very, very rare and attacks on scuba divers are even more rare. Our staff, divers and dive masters are all trained in making sure your dive is safe and enjoyable.

Thanks to the professional guides! I was a bit worried about kayaking because I had never done it before, but the instructions were great and I had such a good time!
