Diving Weight Systems

When it comes to Bahamas Diving, equipment can make or break your whole diving experience. It's best to make sure you have everything and that it's in good working condition. This article will cover the different types of weight system used for diving today.

Most of us float. But when we’re diving that’s a bad thing. It takes a lot of effort to stay below the surface of the water and that causes us to expend more air from our tanks. A weight system is necessary to hold us down at the level we wish to be at without having to constantly kick our fins to do so.

The type of weight system you'll need will depend on they type of Buoyancy Control Device or BCD you use. The two types of weight system are weight belts and the integral system.

The weight belt is the older of the two types of system. Dive belts come in nylon or fabric. They are belts with weights woven into them. Some will have pockets for extra convenience.

The integral weight system is integrated into the BCD. It eliminates the need for an extra belt. It's built into the Buoyancy Control Device. Most people find these the more comfortable of the two systems.

Weight systems should come with a quick release. These allow you to use one hand in motion to drop weight when needed as a safety precaution. They also need to be outfitted with reliable buckles so that you don't drop your weights accidently.

Proper weighting is a skill. The better you become at it, the more enjoyable your diving experiences will be. Time is always a good teacher. There are also courses available to help you in this effort.

It's always best to take advantage of a weighting course to get you started right. When you go Bahamas Diving, you'll have an opportunity to take a PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course to enhance your skills. Have fun!
